Waddell & Reed was founded in 1937 by World War I veterans Chancey Waddell & Cameron Reed, headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas. Although Waddell & Reed was one of the oldest asset and wealth management companies in the United States, in 2020 it was announced that LPL Financial would enter a partnership to acquire Waddell & Reed’s wealth management business as one of their top-tier asset management partners. By July 2021, the merger was completed, and former Waddell & Reed advisors continue to run their practice with their new partners at LPL Financial.
